The Long Walk - Harry’s Review - 7.5/10
Stephen King certainly loves to lease his work out for films doesn’t he! 2025 will see four films and one TV series released based on his expansive collections of books.
I wasn’t convinced on this film based on the trailers. I was concerned it was going to lean too close to the directors (Francis Lawrence) previous works, The Hungers Games. However, I was pleasantly surprised, even if it meant for a slightly plodding (pun intended), but still tense film.
The film leans more into the brotherhood found in impossible situations. Only one of the hundred young men embarking on the long walk, will make it out alive. The characters who were early on, portrayed as your classic “knobhead in a survival situation”, were given more depth than other films of this ilk tend to spend time on, to redeem them as characters and not just foils for the main characters.
Whether this slower pace and different tone from what you may be expecting (dare I say, what was advertised) is your cup of tea, will depend on if you were hoping for a savagery displayed in films like The Hunger Games or Squid Games. If so, this may not be for you, but give it a chance you’ll appreciate it for its unconventional take of the knockout survival genre, with strong performances across the board (shoutout to David Jonsson and Judy Greer especially) and a stark direction which contrasts the brotherhood on display and the fleeting friendships which occur in the darkest of times.
Harry - 7.5/10
What Harry lacks in writing credentials, he makes up for in passion for the subject at hand. The MultiMediaVerse venture isn’t something that sustains us with life’s needs and serves more as a passion project (currently) for us, so if our various contents feels a little rough and ready, that’s because they are! Any feedback is always welcome and we hope you enjoy reading our articles.
